Hear about one of our research centres

The Centre for New Energy Transition Research

Centre for Neurology Transitional Research is an interdisciplinary research centre that will look into new energy including hydrogen, solar energy and wind energy. It will research into smart grid, future grid technologies, energy efficiency, storage and energy systems and other type of innovative solutions that goes with the country's commitment toward net 0 by 2050. The Centre for Neurology Technology is a very important partner for our Centre for New Energy Transition Research as we collectively work together developing new energy technologies. C4NET is the member-based organisation tackling the complex challenges and research that's needed to drive us through the energy transition. That's a collaborative and co-creative approach their industry LED projects and that's really important because it means that the research solutions transition straight into industry and have that utility there. Federation are taking the lead on developing new energy courses and specific programs that are gonna be focused on tackling some of the complex challenges that we have in front of us. That puts Federation as a regional university in close proximity to these initiatives and these projects. Latrobe Valley is an electricity generation hub. It is going to translate from coal fired power station to new energy technologies. Our hydrogen hub of the research centre is based in Gippsland. We have got capabilities there and laboratories as well as we are hiring new expert in that area. We've got all this data at hand and by using that in a really sensible manner, we can actually look forward and project 5, 10, 15 years into the future to see those problems, see the opportunities and start building those solutions today.

Pathways to a research course

You generally need to have an honours degree or a masters by coursework (with a relevant research component) to do a higher degree by research. Sometimes we take students based on their work or life experience. But if you don’t meet the entry requirements, the Graduate Certificate in Research is a fantastic pathway.

Fadi [co-director Professor Fadi Charchar] was checking in and connecting me with different people and groups – it made the situation a lot easier to handle. "
