ARHON4102 Advanced Research Methodology
This unit provides a comprehensive overview of research design and methodologies, equipping honours students with the essential knowledge and skills to undertake rigorous research and/or creative works and innovation aligned to discipline expectations. It begins by exploring foundational theories of knowledge and research philosophies, helping students understand how different perspectives shape the generation of knowledge and creative outputs. The curriculum is focused on a range of research theories, their practical applications and methodologies. It encourages critical analysis through the lens of contemporary theoretical frameworks relevant to each discipline.Students engage with a diverse array of methodological approaches, including both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Qualitative methods are discussed in depth, with emphasis on data collection, analysis, and the importance of validation in research outcomes. Quantitative techniques are also introduced, ensuring students gain familiarity with statistical tools and interpretation. Research methods aligned to creative outputs are discussed in relation to discipline expectations.
Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) unit fee
A Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) is one that is subsidised by the Australian Government, which means students only pay the student contribution amount of the tuition fee. CSPs are only available to eligible domestic students.
The student contribution amount depends on the unit and how much funding the Government provides. Each unit is classified into a band based on its discipline (which may be different to your overall course discipline).
2026 student contribution amount: $592
2026 grandfathered student contribution amount (for students who commenced before 1 Jan 2021*): $592
* If you are a continuing student (who commenced your course before 1 January 2021) you will continue paying the same amount as you would have, had legislative reforms not been implemented for any units that would otherwise have an increased student contribution amount.
