SCENV2101 Australian Flora

This unit introduces students to the essential characteristics of Australian flora and plant communities, combining foundational botanical theory with applied ecological practice. Students will examine plant phylogeny, life cycles, reproduction, and physiology to understand how these processes shape vegetation structure and function. The unit explores the classification and identification of major plant families, ecological interactions, and the environmental challenges facing Australian plant systems. Through laboratories, herbarium work, and a field excursion, students will develop practical skills in plant identification, morphological interpretation, and vegetation assessment, while applying critical thinking to conservation and management strategies.

Commonwealth supported place (CSP)

A CSP is subsidised by the Australian Government and students pay a contribution amount. Each unit is classified into a band, depending on the study area of the unit (this discipline may be different from the study area of your course).

Domestic full fee–paying places
