Frequently Asked Questions
You’ll find the answers to some of our most asked questions below.
1. Can I credit transfer from an existing or partial qual?
Credit transfer is recognition that you have previously completed a unit of competency through a VET provider. To receive a credit transfer for a unit, you will need to provide formal evidence that you’ve previously completed the unit which matches in content and outcome. Formal evidence can be a qualification certificate or transcript, statement of attainment or your USI transcript. We will verify that the unit of competency codes align.
When credit is recognised, you will not need to repeat training or assessment for that unit of competency.
2. Can I defer?
At TAFE we do not use the deferral model, however all units successfully completed will be available towards your full qualification. If you wish to put a hold on your study, you will be withdrawn from study, however you may to return to study when the timing is right for you.
3. Do I have to complete all the tasks?
Yes. Competency-based training requires students to complete the Assessment Tasks to provide evidence of their understanding and are graded as Satisfactory or Non-Satisfactory. Students who do not attempt all tasks in the unit are required to be withdrawn from the relevant unit at the end of the teaching period.
4. Do I need to attend classes?
Yes, students are required to attend classes. We record all classes for you to revisit or catch up if you are unwell, however, to stay on top of course content coming to class is necessary. Class rolls are used as evidence of participation for compliance, watching a class back does not count as evidence of participation.
5. Can I use Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) as evidence for some units?
Yes, you can RPL any units that you can provide sufficient evidence for. We have found the nature of the TAE content can make RPL difficult and complex, however students are welcome to discuss with the trainers at the time of enrolment. See Fed TAFE RPL policy for further details.
6. Does my Education Degree/Masters provide evidence for RPL?
No, unfortunately although the qualifications are at a higher AQF level, we cannot use them as RPL evidence. See Fed TAFE RPL policy for further details.

Hear from our students

Hi, my name is Maddie and I'm studying a Bachelor of Education. I'm specialising in inclusive Ed and I'm in my third year of studies. I chose to study at Fed Uni because it is close to home and because I had a few friends who were studying here as well. I would recommend federation to those considering studying because of the placement opportunities they have here. This year as part of my diversity placement I was given the opportunity to travel to the NT to a remote indigenous community. This option was available to all students in my degree in the third year and it was made even more accessible as the majority of the accommodation and flights were funded by the Uni Arunga. The community I was placed in was the most beautiful little community with wonderful students and incredible classroom facilities. I'm so glad and proud of myself for taking that leap of faith because now I have so many more skills and experiences under my belt. This opportunity will be something I'll happily share with anyone and we'll think about forever. I really couldn't recommend this programme more.
