Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) fees
Find out whether you qualify for a higher education Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) and learn about the different types of course fees.
A Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) is one that is subsidised by the Australian Government. This means the Government pays part of your higher education course fee and you pay the rest (the student contribution amount). If you’re eligible for a HECS-HELP loan, you can defer this payment. All of our undergraduate and honours courses and many of our postgraduate courses offer CSPs.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) you must:
- be an Australian citizen
OR
be a New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent visa holder, eligible former permanent humanitarian visa holder or Pacific engagement visa (PEV) holder who studies the entire course while living in Australia - have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) before the first census date
- have enough Student Learning Entitlement available.
If you’re an Australian citizen, you must complete at least some of your course while living in Australia.
Your offer letter will indicate if you have been offered a CSP.
Understand your fees
Your total student contribution amount will depend on the units (subjects) you choose (rather than your overall course), your study load and the time it takes to finish your course.
Every unit fits into a discipline, and these are grouped into bands. Each band has a unique student contribution amount for a one-year, full-time study load (known a 1 EFTSL or 120 credit points). The Government sets the band cost each year.

Want to know approximately how much your dream course will cost? Do a search for it and go to the fees section. You can also find out the price for individual units.
Your Student Services and Amenities Fee funds non-academic things like events, wellbeing, careers and student rep groups. The amount is set by the Government and will depend on your enrolment load and mode of study. If you’re eligible for an SA-HELP loan, you can defer this payment.
Your student contribution amount won’t cover things like materials fees, uniforms, textbooks or excursions. To find out if there's a set materials fee for your dream course, search for it and go to the 'Fees' section. If you’d like specific information about uniforms, textbooks or other recommended equipment, search for your course and contact the course coordinator listed in the ‘About this course’ section.
