International students

When I first came, you know, I was here by myself and I didn't have a car. I was taking my time to find a place to live, to organise a car and my classmate would say I live in that direction and they would give me a lift. But at the end I found out they live in the opposite direction. But just people were so lovely and friendly. I was really careful. I think I lived two years on campus and the first year it was really, really great interacting with domestics and clearing all those barriers and learning more about Australia and it's it makes a lot more easier if once you're on campus you meet different nationalities and you learn a lot. It's very multicultural. I think one of the best things is definitely the level of support that you get from, you know, the international support team. In my case, they were the ones that were always, you know, checking on me. There is also like counselling services. When you are in times where you feel like you may be a little bit overwhelmed by assignments, you can always go to them and you get the support that you need. Don't be scared. And building a community is very important, so get yourself involved in all the events that you can. If you have a strong group of friends in a community, it can be very nice and it can be very fun as well. So that's my advice. Before becoming a lecturer, I was a student here and did my masters here and then move on to my PhD. I got a lot of support, the lecturer and the staff at uni. They are very supportive and the classroom size is small. So I have I and another ten students had support from the lecturer where we know each other well, The lecturer knows by name. We can ask them questions about the problems we have, the theory in the courses. We are just like friends, closer to friends than lecturer and students.

Campus accommodation
Living on campus can help make your transition to uni easier. You’ll get to meet other students living away from home and you’ll definitely appreciate the short commute to class.
